For those baseball fans who need something to celebrate when considering an evening out, John has been doing his homework and has come up with these occasions – all of which occurred on May 25th. A big day in the world of baseball diamonds!

1935 – Babe Ruth hit homerun #714.

1940 – Stan Musial, aka Stan the Man, who played for 22 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals married his high school sweetheart, Lillian Labash. They were married for 70 years.

1941 – Ted Williams’s batting average went over .400 for the first time. He is the last MLB player to achieve that average.

1951 – Willie Mays, the Say Hey Kid, made his major league debut with the NY Giants.

1981 – Yaz (Carl Yastrzemski) of the Boston Red Sox hit his 3000th career hit.

1984 – The Boston Red Sox traded pitcher Dennis Eckersley to the Chicago Cubs for first baseman Bill Buckner, sadly remembered by Sox fans for the 1986 World Series game 6 when a routine ground ball passed between his legs.
